About
I’ll admit it – I have a passion for film pinhole photography and in particular, coastal and seascape photography. A recent sidestep away from a career in the law has enabled me to indulge my photographic passions more fully. I travel regularly with my film pinhole cameras to capture the wonderful coastal landscape, both at home in the UK and abroad. Coming from the traditional landscape genre, I aim to produce images with a strong composition but enhanced by the way a film pinhole camera views the world. With no viewfinder or lenses, almost infinite “apparent” sharpness and exposure times often in the minutes, previsualising the final pinhole image is a key aspect of what I enjoy about pinhole photography. It is a continuing learning process where patience and experimentation can pay dividends. In the megapixel world of digital imagery, lo-fi photography has undergone a welcome resurgence. There are no rights or wrongs in photography, the emphasis should be on what most appeals to the image-maker and having fun along the way. A pinhole camera will not generate a traditional “sharp” image; for many practitioners, it is this dreamlike, almost impressionistic analogue “look” that draws them into this particular branch of film photography. I’m hooked!
